No fewer than 30 people kidnapped by bandits have been reportedly rescued by the police in Zamfara State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, while addressing journalists in Gusau on Monday, said the victims were rescued in different parts of the state.
According to him, 10 of the victims were abducted on Sheme-Funtuwa Road, Katsina State, while returning from Lagos to their village in the Birnin-Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
He said, “On January 26, 2022, police tactical operatives deployed along Mada axis acted on intelligence information and rescued 10 kidnap victims, who were abducted along the Sheme-Funtuwa Road in Katsina State on January 10, 2022.”
Shehu further stated that three other victims, who were also kidnapped on the same road, were rescued by the police after a tip-off.
He stressed that another set of 19 victims from Niger State was rescued by the Nigerian Army and handed over to the police in Gusau.
According to him, the victims included 15 males and four females.
Shehu noted that they were all treated and debriefed by the police command and would be handed over to the Niger State Commissioner of Police, who would reunite them with their families.
