The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed that one person died in a gas explosion in Ijarawa village in the Bichi Local Government Area of the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the agency, Saminu Abdullahi, in a statement on Monday, said one other person survived the explosion, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.
“We received a distress call from one Inspector Daiyabu Tukur at 07.46am that a vehicle conveying cooking gas cylinders fell on the road and one of the cylinders exploded.
“Upon receiving the information, we quickly sent our team to the scene around 8am to rescue the victims,” the statement said.
He explained that the gas cylinders were being conveyed in a J5 commercial vehicle, with number plate FB 52 LAD, which was heading for Katsina State.
Abdullahi said the accident involved two people, Maikano Muhammad, 45, who died, and Abdullahi Usman, 40, who was rescued alive.
“All victims were handed over to Usman Usman of the Bichi Police Outpost. The cause of the incident is under investigation,” he added.
