The National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, on Tuesday, raised the alarm that there was a plan to assassinate him, his wife and daughter.
Arabambi said this in a petition written to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, and an acknowledged copy of the petition dated February 7, 2022 was obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday.
He said the case has been reported to the Adigbe Police Station but was allegedly stalled after the police released the suspect.
The petition signed by his lawyer, Monday Mawah, on his behalf claimed that the attempt on his life and his family members happened on February 4.
The petition read partly, “We act as firm of Solicitors to Comrade Arabambi Abayomi, (hereinafter referred to as ‘our client’ and on whose firm authority we write this letter.
“Our client informed us that on the 4th day of February, 2022, he reported a case of assassination attempt on his life, his wife and daughter to the Adigbe Police Station against one Wale Joseph.
“After the formal complaint was made at the Adigbe Police Station, the Divisional Police Officer asked him to come back the next day and that he will invite the said Wale.
“Our client further informed us that as promised, Wale was invited the next day and he confessed to actually being the one that double crossed him that night, but later said he was only joking with him.
“In less than an hour, without any proper investigation, without a surety, Wale was released on bail on the instruction of the DPO.
“It is consequent upon the above that our client is calling on you to use your good office to call for the file in order for our client complaint to be properly investigated with a view to bringing all those involved to book in order to prevent the repetition of the same”.
When contacted for reaction , the Police Public Relations Officer in the state ,DSP, Abimbola Oyeyemi said his office was not aware .
When Oyeyemi was told that the office of the Commissioner of Police had received the petition, the PPRO said his office had not been briefed on the matter .
When contacted, the accused person denied the allegation.
He said it was true that he saw Arabambi that night at Panseke ,but he was only hailing him with his car horn .
He said “It is not possible . Arabambi is my good brother, my friend and we have been together, at least, I have known him for the past 20 years .
“I left Iwe-Irohin (NUJ Secretariat), on my way home, around Panseke , I just saw him, I just honked. Arabambi just drove his car away , facing one way, I said what is happening? And I tried to call him but he did not pick and I called him the second time, he picked and when I said it is I, he just cut off the phone .
“The following day, they just called me from Ibara police station that Arabambi said I wanted to kill him, that I was with some guys, I was with AK 47, and I wanted to kill him, his wife and his daughter.
“I went to the police station, I wrote a statement, I even thought everything was finished. The police came to my house and searched it, but nothing was found. I don’t know where Arabambi saw the AK 47. It is not possible.”
