Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad have arrested a leader of the Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria, Lagos State, Azeez Abiola, over an alleged attempt to cause mayhem in the Agege area of the state.
The police unit, in a post on Facebook, said Abiola was arrested alongside four others, Yusuf Azeez, aka Araba, 42; Kazeem Akinbode, aka Womi, 43; Taofiq Odewale, aka Omo Iya Agba, 38, and Moses Abiodun, aka Orobo, 34.
The post read in part, “Following an earlier warning by the Lagos State Government that trouble makers should steer clear of the metropolis, the Rapid Response Squad, this afternoon, arrested one of the leaders of the Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Azeez Abiola, and four other suspects for attempting to cause mayhem in Agege.
“They were arrested while leading a team of supporters to the NURTW headquarters in Agege, an action which the authorities believed could trigger violence and chaos in other parts of the metropolis.
“While the police arrested Azeez Abiola and the four other suspects, a pump-action gun was recovered from the area where some of his supporters, who fled to evade arrest, were standing.”
