No fewer than three policemen have been killed by gunmen at a checkpoint in Ebonyi State.
A community source said the three cops were gunned down around 10pm on Monday in front of a police station in the Ishielu Local Government Area of the state, along the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the assailants were in a Hummer bus, which was mistaken for a commercial vehicle by the cops.
The source said, “The remains of the three police victims were deposited in a mortuary in Abakaliki after they were confirmed dead by doctors.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident.
Odah, however, said she could not give details of the casualty figure until a visit to the scene of the incident.
