The Olubadan- designate, Oba Lekan Balogun, has described Ibadan system of ascendancy to the throne as a beautiful one.
Balogun, whose appointment by the kingmakers was approved by Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday, said the system is devoid of crisis which normally characterised succession in many towns.
He said this while speaking with journalists at his residence in Ibadan on Tuesday.
The 79-year old monarch thanked God for sparing his life, saying he joined the first stage by becoming the Mogaji of Ali Iwo Family in 1986 when he was still working with Shell Petroleum Company.
He said, “I became the Mogaji of Ali Iwo Family in 1986. It is not unusual to be on the queue for a long time, it’s a gradual movement and many of us did not get there (to the throne).
“I have to thank Ibadan people and I have just come to appreciate this system. Ibadan system is a beautiful one. You just get there when you get there and there is nothing controversial about it at all.
“No rancour, no using the police to arrest anybody. It is a beautiful style. I have to thank first and foremost, the Ibadan people. I have to thank the people that evolved the beautiful system.”
The Personal Assistant to the new Olubadan-designate, Hakeem Rufai, had earlier told our correspondent that the town would witness peace and development during the reign of the new monarch.
He said, “It is expected that when there is a positive mind and intention in the management of a town, peace and progress will naturally follow.
“The intention of Kabiyesi and our family is to ensure equity in the administration of traditional system, and to find peace as much as possible and to collaborate with people and institutions on how to bring more development to the city and I am sure that God will help us.”
