National Emergency Management Agency, alongside Save Nigeria African Project SNAP-care foundation, on Friday, supplied relief items to Nyuwar and other displaced communities in Gombe State.
Recall that Nyuwar, Jesu were among communities sacked by suspected armed groups, injuring residents, including an army officer who was deployed to quell the violence.
According to the NEMA Head of Operations Ummuna Ahmed, the agency was collaborating with the organisation to being succour to displaced persons whom had been affected following series of attacks.
Represented by a Principal Officer Search and Rescue, Abubakar Alkali, who revealed that this was part of the agency’s mandate while urging beneficiaries to constitute themselves into committee for equitable distribution of items.
Ahmed said, “This relief distribution is as a result of assessment conducted by our officials on the level of displacement, due to an alert we received from State Emergency Management Agency on the level of displacement.
“We are urging the good people of this community to form a distribution committee so that they can distribute it to the affected people.”
Also Speaking, Chief Executive Officer of SNAP-care, Jazeel Ibrahim, said they were in the community to provide support to the affected persons, adding that they presented the plight of the community before various authorities.
“We as humanitarian organisation we felt sorry having assessed their challenges, that is the reason we have come to make the presentation to bring succour to the people,” Ibrahim said.
Also, National Chairman Nyuwar Community Development Association, Zullum Galiyos, lauded the effort of the organisation while praying government to find lasting solution to the yearly attacks.
He urged the government to establish a committee of inquiry into ascertaining the remote issues, towards resettling victims, families of the clashes.
Receiving the items on behalf of District Head of Nyuwar, James Pisagih, Yohanna Istafanus expressed excitement over the items which include foams, buckets, mats, plates, spoons, rice, maize, groundnut oil and sachet tomatoes.
He promised that the items would be properly distributed for the benefit of the displaced persons.
