Kelechi Nwakali has been suspended by Spanish Segunda Division club SD Huesca after he reported back to the club late from the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The Nigerian midfielder made three appearances for the Eagles who crashed out of the AFCON in the round of 16 after a 1-0 defeat to Tunisia.
He rejoined his club 10 days late and offered “incredible stories” for his lateness a statement on the club website revealed.
The midfielder, who has captained both the Flying Eagles and Golden Eaglets, has been fined and suspended for 10 days without pay.
Nwakali’s contract with Huesca will run out this summer and he could walk away a free agent.
Nwakali has so far made 18 appearances with two assists.
