THE police in Ekiti State have arrested five suspected cult members and drug dealers in Ikere Ekiti, the headquarters of Ikere Local Government area of Ekiti State.
The police Commissioner, Ekiti State Command, Tunde Mobayo, said that the arrest followed credible tip- off that a group of suspected cultists were sighted in a popular hotel in the community.
Mobayo, in a statement titled, ‘Ekiti State Command Rapid Response Squad nabs suspected cultists and drug barons,’ made available by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, on Saturday, said that the suspects were arrested at about 2.30am on Friday.
He stated, “Upon receipt of the information, the RRS operatives swung into action and on getting to the hotel, five men – Gboyega, Oyeyemi, Ayomide, Praise and Emmanuel – were found in one of the hotel rooms.
“Upon searching the room, items found in their possession and recovered included three packs of suspected Arizona hemp, 50 wraps of suspected cocaine, 15 packs of suspected loud hemp, 20 wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, 10 gas lighters, one sharp knife and N76,900 cash.
“During interrogation, the arrested suspects confessed to be illicit drug dealers,” the police boss stated.
Mobayo, who praised the members of the public for providing timely and useful information to the police which led to arrest of the suspects and other criminal elements in society, assured that the police “will not relent in efforts to cripple the activities of criminals in the state”.
