A non-governmental organisation, Better Life Initiative, has empowered women with skills at Egede Community in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
41 women benefitted from the three-month tuition-free skills acquisition programme on making bread, cake, chin, meat pie, deodorants, and shoes among others.
Declaring the training open on Sunday, the Chief Executive Officer/Director, Bibian Agada, said she was moved by passion to ensure that women and girls in the community engage in meaningful activities.
“All you will do for me is to make out time to come and learn the skills,” she urged, saying that those who are serious would not regret.
A community leader, Chief Francis Uzoenyi, urged the trainees to take their training seriously, saying that many people in society have made it by acquiring one skill or the other and not relying on government employment or other paid jobs.
An educationist, Ojukwu Alex, who donated some books for the adult education classes as well as for the skills acquisition programme, said that what counted in life is what one could do.
