The immediate past Commissioner of Environment and Petroleum Resources in Akwa Ibom State and senatorial aspirant for Eket senatorial district, Dr. Ekong Sampson, has advocated more power and recognition for traditional rulers to enable them tackle security lapses in their respective domains.
According to him, the traditional rulers can help strengthened the fabrics of national unity if given more power and recognition in the country.
Sampson said this on Saturday when he led a delegation of his team on a visit to the Paramount ruler of Mkpat Enin, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Akpan Akpan Ekpene and his clan heads at Ikot Eyienge village as part of his consultation for the senatorial race.
“I came to respectfully pay homage and inform you of my intention to represent Eket Senatorial District come 2023.
“By the grace of God, if I am elected into the Red Chamber, I will not change in my love and commitment towards the traditional institution of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. I will do even more.
“I will initiate legislations that will give traditional institutions more powers and recognition which will help in the fight against insecurity in the country. I believe that if the traditional rulers are given power and recognition,, they can to strengthen the fabrics of our national unity” he said.
The Paramount Ruler said that Sampson has the sincere blessings and endorsement of the royal fathers for his Senate 2023 ambition.
“You always have the interest of all Mkpat Enin at heart. We will support you and will always pray for you. As you get to the Senate, always remember Mkpat Enin, your home,” the monarch said.
