The Delta State Government has called on communities to adhere to the law regulating the activities of the President-General of communities.
The State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Mr. Isaiah Bozimo, who stated this on Tuesday in Asaba, said the erring community would be fined N500,000 while individuals would pay N250,000.
He said, “The Delta State Community Development Regulatory Law has been signed by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
“So, by this law, the community development association will register the association with N50,000 alongside with CAC at the Women Affairs and Community Development Ministry.
“We are here to sensitize the public because any community that default will be fine N500,000 while individual will charge N250,000”
He stated that the law provided secondary certificate as minimum certificate to contest for the President-General seat and others with minimum of three years tenure.
He said the law was not to stiffer the community association but to regulate its activities.
In his remark, the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu added that the law was enhanced the community development association agenda for peace and progress.
He assured the general public that political influence will not tolerate in community association elections.
