The Ogun State Government has inaugurated the Emergency Medical Treatment Committee to ensure a collaborative response to trauma and medical emergencies within the shortest possible time frame.
The committee, according to a statement on Wednesday consists of stakeholders drawn from various relevant government agencies and professional bodies including traffic, security agencies, health, media and emergency management.
Inaugurating the committee in Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, said its role was crucial to human survival, especially during a critical period of need in cases of road crashes and obstetrics emergencies.
Coker pointed that majority of deaths and injuries occasioned by road accidents could be cut down through the implementation of prevention strategies.
The Commissioner said that the committee which would be domiciled within the Department of Ambulance and Emergency Services in the State Ministry of Health, will position Ogun to participate in the Emergency Medical Treatment Gateway which is the third pillar of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund to be implemented.
“This is a much-needed service to all residents regardless of the status-quo and it would in no time put Ogun at par with developed countries where such services are the norm. I hereby call on the members of the committee to work assiduously in line with the programme implementation manual for the good of humanity, “Coker said.
