The Anambra State House of Assembly has appointed with immediate effect, Dr Pete Ibida, representing Njikoka ll constituency as its new Chief Whip.
Ibida’s appointment followed the message from the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, which was read by the Speaker, Mr Uche Okafor on Thursday, at the plenary.
Okafor said members of APGA which is the majority party in the House met and appointed Dr Pete Ibida representing Njikoka ll constituency, as the new Chief Whip of the House.
Responding, Ibida appreciated the House for finding him worthy to serve as the new Chief Whip.
“I promise to use this position to champion excellence for the interest and progress of the Anambra state Assembly,” Ibida said.
The Majority Leader of the House, Dr Nnamdi Okafor, congratulated Ibida on behalf of the lawmakers and assured him of their support.
It could be recalled that on February 16, the former Chief Whip, Mr Lawrence Ezeudu representing Dunukofia Constituency, in a letter dated December 7, 2021, resigned his position with immediate effect.
The lawmaker said he resigned as the Chief Whip of the House following his defection from APGA to the All Progressives Congress, which is a minority party in the House.
