The College of Education Academic Staff Union, on Thursday, implored the Ogun State government to give more of its support to the Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-ljebu, Ogun state.
COEASU also commended the efforts by the state government, adding that the backlash of the conflict between the union and the management in the past overwhelmed the institution.
The National Vice President and the Southwest Coordinator of the union, Olusegun Lana, stated this at a press briefing held in Abeokuta.
Lama said the union has plans that would revamp the state of the college
The Southwest coordinator, who lamented that the Union’s numerous letters written to the government were not replied to, advised that dialogue is a way to resolve the festering issues.
He said “We have certain win-win ideas to bring to the table which would help the Govermor to consolidate his administration’s laudable efforts in revamping the College and sustain industrial harmony.
This is in line with our Union’s strong belief in collective bargaining anchored on constructive engagement, mutual respect and great consideration for smooth-running of the system.
“Prior to the advent of the present administration, TASCE had suffered untold hardship on account of neglect and poor funding under successive administrations leading to accumulation of unpaid fractions of salary spanning 76 months, unremitted pension contributions, promotions without financial effect and several other demoralising conditions.
“This situation led to confrontations between unions and successive management, most memorable of these confrontations being that of 2018-2019 when the institution was grounded to a stalemate as sections of the staff held the institution hostage and demanded government intervention to clear up the arrears of salaries among other demands.”
He further said the institution (now Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology) renamed in honour of the paramount ruler of ljebuland, Oba Kayode Adetona, demands urgent attention.
He said “We are here to commend the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, for the progressive efforts of his administration at Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-ljebu, and to request his audience for amicable resolution of festering issues he inherited in the institution.”
