A Federal High Court sitting in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital, on Thursday, adjourned the trial of a former governor of the state, Senator Saminu Turaki, alongside four others, over alleged N36bn corruption charges.
Turaki and four others are standing trial on 32 counts bordering on the misappropriation of N36bn.
Initially slated for February 24 and 25 for the continuation of hearing, the case was adjourned till March due to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s failure to ensure service on the second, third and fourth defendants.
The commission also told the court that it was not ready for the case.
Requesting for the adjournment, counsel for the EFCC, O. A. Atolagbe, said the witnesses were not in court.
Turaki’s counsel, Saidu Tudun-Wada, who did not object to the application for adjournment, instead asked for a cost of N500,000 due to the failure of the prosecution to inform him in good time.
In his ruling on the application, Justice Hassan Dikko granted the adjournment application and ordered a cost of N200,000 against the prosecuting counsel.
