The Katsina State Police Command on Monday paraded sixteen suspects, two of whom were alleged to be kidnappers.
The two alleged kidnappers, Usman Abubakar, 22, and Yusufa Ibrahim, 30, both of Kanbiri village, Safana Local Government Area of the state, were said to have been arrested on February 9, 2022.
They were arrested after they made phone calls to one Abdulbasiru Salisu of Shema village, Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state, threatening him to deposit NN250,000:00 into an account number or risked being kidnapped.
The Command’s Spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, who spoke with newsmen at the police headquarters where the suspects were paraded, revealed that the duo was later traced and arrested.
Isah added: “They confessed to the commission of the offence and other similar offences. An investigation is ongoing,”
Six other suspects alleged to have been caught with items suspected to be weeds were also among those paraded.
They were Aliya Sulaiman, 17, of Malaku village of Rimi Local Government Area; Ahmadu Sulaiman, 25, of Kaware, Yargamji village, Batagarawa Local Government Area; Bashir Saddi, 27, of Makera, Yargamji village, Batagarawa Local Government Area.
Others are Shamsuddeen Salisu Kurfi, 50, of Kurfi Local Government Area; Alkasim Musa, 18, of Kofar Marusa Quarters, Katsina and Sani Ibrahim, 18, of Bayan Masallacin Idi, Tudun Yanlihidda Quarters, also in Katsina.
The police spokesman said the six suspects were arrested on February 26, 2022, at Yargamji market, adding that a “ large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp and spirit solution were found in their possession”.
Other suspects also paraded were four members of a syndicate of burglars, alleged to be terrorizing Katsina and its environs.
They were Kamala Abdullahi, 18, of Yammawa Quarters, Katsina; Usman Hamisu, 20, of Tudun Yan Lihidda Quarters, Katsina; Muhammadu Abubakar, 21, of Rafukka Quarters, Katsina and Aminu Salisu, 23, of Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina.
SP Isah said the four suspects were arrested also on February 26, 2022, from their hideout while preparing to go out on operation, adding that items found on them included Iron Dagger Machete, hammer, and knives.
He added that further police investigation led to the arrest of one Sabi’u Salisu, 35, of Kofar Sauri Quarters, Katsina, alleged to be a receiver of stolen items.
Sp Isah added that a search on Salisu’s residence led to the recovery of four four iron doors; some beverages; one mattress; 20 sheep; 25 bags of pepper and one generator, among others.
Three suspects described as brigands were also paraded. The trio who were all residents of Katsina were Mubarak Yunusa, 18 ;Abubakar Babangida, 25 and Mubarak Yan Ladan,19.
They were arrested also on February 26, 2022.
SP Isah said all the suspects would be arraigned in courts after completion of investigation on their cases.
