The Niger State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students has threatened to shut down government activities in the state if the Federal Government does not resolve its issues with the Academic Staff Union of Universities
NANS Niger zonal coordinator, Hussaini Ebbo, made this threat on Monday in Minna during the association’s peaceful protest.
He said that the protest was a warning to the Federal Government in line with a directive from NANS National Headquarters.
“The next time we are up on the street to demonstrate, we will ensure that we shut down all ministries and parastatal,” Ebbo said.
Ebbo accused the Federal Government of insincerity in handling the issue adding that students are tired of the constant strikes by university lecturers.
“Federal Government is yet to take a bold step to end this constant strikes by lecturers.
“Campuses have been under lock and key for some weeks now and for many years, this has been the regular thing.
“We are not finding this funny as our time is not only being wasted but our resources are being wasted as our rents are running in our different houses even as the strike continues,” he added.
He stated that students can no longer pretend. As a result, they have mobilized to the streets to express their displeasure.
Ebbo urged the FG and ASUU to end the strike in the best interests of the students.
