The Olubadan-in-Council has said anyone aspiring to be installed as Baale or Mogaji in Ibadan land will be compulsorily made to undergo integrity test.
The council also said such individuals must possess a record of past contributions to Ibadan before their appointment could be ratified.
This was part of the resolutions made during a meeting of the council, held at the Alarere residence of the Olubadan designate, Lekan Balogun, on Monday.
The Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, Chief Tajudeen Ajibola, said this while briefing journalists after the council’s meeting.
He noted that there were claims in many parts of the country that the younger generation were attracted to crime because traditional rulers and religious institutions honour people with questionable character with titles.
Ajibola, however, said the decision was part of the policy of the new Olubadan to ensure that only credible people hold chieftaincy titles during his reign.
Ajibola said, “Every aspiring Baale, Mogaji or Jagun will be screened by members of the Olubadan-in-Council before their appointment can be ratified.
“Other issues addressed at the meeting are the coronation ceremony holding next week and the ensuing promotion of High Chiefs in the Olubadan line, occasioned by the elevation of Otun Olubadan (Balogun) to the Olubadan stool.
“The meeting was held at the instance of the new Olubadan. The coronation committee was expanded with the nomination of High Chiefs Lateef Adebimpe, Olubunmi Isioye, Abiodun Kola-Daisi and Hamidu Ajibade- Osi Balogun, Ekerin Balogun, Ekerin Olubadan and Ekarun Olubadan respectively.
“The Oniroko of Iroko, Ismaila Abioye and Baale Ajia Olorungbuji, Oladepo Suleiman, were also nominated as new members of the coronation committee.
“Their names would be sent to the state government as new members of the committee.”
Those at the meeting include Balogun of Ibadan land, High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin; Osi Balogun, High Chief Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe; Ashipa Balogun, High Chief Kola Adegbola; and Ekerin Balogun, High Chief Olubunmi Isioye.
Others were Ashipa Olubadan, High Chief Eddy Oyewole; Ekerin Olubadan, High Chief Abiodun Kola-Daisi; and Ekarun Olubadan, High Chief Hamidu Ajibade.
