A 24-year-old man, John Dennis, has been arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing iron bars valued at N6,000 in the Ebute-Metta area of the state.
Dennis was alleged to have stolen the iron bars around 9pm on February 24, 2022.
The defendant was also said to have fought those who challenged his ownership of the items before he was arrested and taken to a police station.
He was arraigned on Monday on two counts bordering on stealing and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The charges read in part, “That you, John Dennis, on February 24, 2022, around 9pm, at the frontage of Denton Police Station, Muritala Muhammed Way, Ebute Metta, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal four pieces of L bar iron rods valued at the sum of N6,000, being the property of Step Development Limited, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The defendant pleaded guilty to the two counts as the Magistrate, Mrs Folarin Williams, adjourned the matter till March 4, 2022.
