Gunmen have razed the Okwelle Divisional Police Headquarters in the Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State.
Our correspondent gathered that the hoodlums struck midnight when there was no policeman on duty.
An indigene, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told PUNCH Metro that the attack created tension in the area.
He said, “The policemen there usually leave every night and resume in the morning. We learnt they used to sleep in another station. Last night, hoodlums stormed there and set it ablaze. This is about the only functional police station around here and it has been set on fire. This is highly unfortunate.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Micheal Abattam, confirmed the attack, adding that there was no casualty.
The recent attack came just one week after gunmen attacked the Isu divisional police headquarters and killed two policemen on duty.
