D’Tigress could face world and Olympic champions the United States, China, hosts Australia, France or Serbia in the group stage of the forthcoming 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup, billed to hold in Australia from September 22 to October 1.
The draw is billed to hold on Thursday (today) in Sydney with Opals legendary point guard Michele Timms set to perform the draw.
All 12 qualified teams have been seeded in two pots based on the recently released ranking. The United States, Australia, Canada, Belgium, France and China while Japan, Serbia, Nigeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina and a country yet to be decided after Russia were disqualified, are in pot 2.
According to the format, three teams in pot one will be divided into Group A while three teams from pot 2 will be drafted in Group B.
Four teams from each of the two groups will advance to the quarter-finals.
First Bank Women’s Basketball head coach, Lateef Erinfolami, believes D’Tigress are good enough to face any opposition in Australia.
“The team has shown they are no pushovers in women’s basketball. I know there are very tough countries out there but these girls can shock any of them,” Erinfolami told PUNCH Sport Extra.
“They have all it takes to go far,” Erinfolami added.
