Again, suspected terrorists have killed five persons in Manini Village, near Kuriga, along the dreaded Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highway.
Kuriga is in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State and the community is known for its notoriety in banditry.
It is the gateway to the southern part of the country.
The latest attack happened barely a week after the terrorists invaded highway where a student of Government Science Secondary School, Birnin-Gwari was reportedly shot while on his way to register for Joint Admission Matriculations Board Unified Matriculations Examination (JAMB-UMTE) in Kaduna, the state capital.
The student was said to have escaped with a bullet wounds.
Seven others were killed by the bandits while 57 people, including women and children, were kidnapped and taken to an unknown destination by the terrorists.
According to the Chairman, Birnin-Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance, Alhaji Ibrahim Nagwari, in a statement on Friday, among those killed by the hoodlums are Saifudeen Isa and another male from Brinin-Gwari, one person from Kuriga and two others from Udawa.
Nagwari said the incident took place around 4:30pm on Thursday when the terrorists opened fire on motorists along the highway on three occasions, adding also that seven persons, including two women were injured with bullet wounds.
Besides, the chairman said the terrorists razed a tanker vehicle loaded with 33,000 litres of fuel being conveyed to Birnin-Gwari.
He noted that the terrorists operated on a daily basis on the same highway unhindered.
“The terrorists burnt to ashes a tanker conveying 33,000 litres of fuel to Brinin-Gwari at the same Manini killing field,” he said.
The chairman noted that the troubling security situation along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna road and the displacement of communities by the terrorists in the entire Emirate had reached a level that citizens could no longer move around in the area.
Nagwari asked the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to declare a state of emergency in the area and carry out a full scale bombardment around the Birnin-Gwari forests and the adjoining forests of Niger, Katsina and Zamfara states.
He also called for a speedy establishment of a special JAMB/CBT centre in Brinin-Gwari to allow their students the right to quality education, saying this was necessary “since movement to Kaduna is now a mirage due to deteriorating security situation in the area.”
As of the time of filing this report, neither the state nor the state police command had confirmed the attacks.
When contacted on the telephone, the spokesman of the command, Mohammad Jalige, neither returned our correspondent’s call or the text message.
