An Abia sport icon and a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Mrs Oluchi Ogwo, stated this all the way from Maryland, United States, in a radio programme monitored in Umuahia.
Ogwo, who indicated her intention to run for the number one seat in the state, said that women should be given the opportunity as the men have not lived up to expectation.
“Since the creation of Abia State, men have ruled the state. I think all men should simply step aside or step down if they have conscience and want the good of Abia State.
“If you keep doing or repeating the same thing all over again, you will get the same result. Abia State needs a woman to put the house in order like we do it in our private lives,” she added.
As a result of the misrule by men, therefore, she said that the state has been made a laughing stock in the comity of states in Nigeria, hence the need to offer women the opportunity to govern the state.
“I have nothing against the men. It is just that you people have done very bad job and we need to reduce the cost of governance and put Abia State’s finances in the right perspective.
“Women have been left behind. In the spirit of equity, fairness and justice to all gender, 2023 is the turn of an Abian woman to lead the state,” Ogwo noted.
Born in Amaoji in Okoko Item in the Bende LGA of Abia State, Ogwo, who is a graduate of Hospitality Management and Physical Education, and a former Grasshoppers Handball Team of Owerri player, had represented Nigeria in world outings and is the first African to go professional handball, said she has the key to the development of the state.
“I want to salvage Abia from the present decay. Every right thinking Abian and non-Abian are aware of the sorry state of the state. We can’t all just fold our hands and watch things decay more. I have come to wipe away tears from our parents, the pensioners and Abia workers.
“I have come to develop Abia and to make it the economic hub of Africa. I have come to serve my people and I have come to bring that needed modern state and love to all Abians,” she said.
