The Kogi State Government has officially presented staffs of office to 104 recently graded and upgraded traditional rulers.
Among those handed the staffs of office are 31 first class, 30 second class and 43 third class chiefs.
Making the presentation in Lokoja, Governor Yahaya Bello said the upgrade was in consonance with his administration’s commitment to according the traditional institution a pride of place.
He described the place of the traditional institution in maintaining peace and security as very necessary, and urged the traditional rulers to sustain the peace and security in their domains.
Bello gave an assurance that his administration would continue to work with the traditional institution in achieving peace and security, and described monarchs as God’s representatives on earth.
The governor described the traditional rulers as owners of the land, adding that they owned every inch of the land in their domains and promised to continue to work with them in making the state the most peaceful in the country.
He said his administration maintained fairness, equity and justice in the appointment and upgrade of the traditional rulers, and promised to look into the pending request for appointment and upgrade of other monarchs soon.
While pointing out that he would continue to advocate the inclusion of the traditional institution in politics and governance in Nigeria, the governor said he had made monarchs part and parcel of his administration.
