Ahead of July 16, 2022, Osun governorship election, a medical doctor, Oyelami Saliu, has emerged as the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, for the poll.
A statement issued by Saliu’s media office on Wednesday indicated that he emerged as the governorship candidate of the party through affirmation during a meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo.
It added that the meeting, which was observed by officials of the Independent Electoral Commission, also had in attendance the state chairman of the party, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, and members of his executives, as well as delegates from all local government areas in the state.
Speaking earlier, the primary election committee chairman, who also doubles as NNPP General Secretary in the state, Mr. Abolade Adekunle, explained that three aspirants had shown interest in the ticket, but the candidature of Oyelami was affirmed by party members.
Adekunle said, “It is a fact that things are not normal, we need to work together to rescue the state. This is our time as youth. Youth and women are the real electorate. We must vote and protect our votes.
“Let’s go out and tell people that NNPP is the only third force people can reckon with in Osun. Let’s preach love and show them that love exists among us.”
Speaking after receiving the party’s flag, Saliu commended the party’s leadership in the state and promised not to let the party down.
