Former Italy and Chievo forward, Sergio Pellisier, has advised Nigeria international Victor Osimhen to run less and channel his energy into scoring more goals.
The 42-year-old, a big fan of Osimhen, disagreed with the Super Eagles striker in trying to pattern his game the same way with former Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.
Osimhen, just like Cavani, is fans’ favourite at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium since his summer move in 2020.
Since joining the Partenopei from Lille for a record fee €81m plus with add-ons, the 23-year-old has become an integral part of the Naples side, with his goals helping them contend for the Serie A title for the first time in three decades.
Osimhen has scored 11 goals this season and registered five assists, but more than his goal contributions, the striker is also known for his tireless running and trying to run defenders down for the entirety of every game.
However, Pellisier in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss, a Naples-based radio station, said Osimhen would need to run less and save his energy for him to focus more on scoring goals.
“Unfortunately, the results arrive if the attackers score goals. Napoli had problems with players, someone has been apart for a few games, and it’s not easy when you’re not full or 100 per cent, you miss those who were scoring a lot of goals until recently.
“Where does Osimhen need to improve? An attacker must always score goals, must waste as little energy as possible. There are few of Cavani, who continue to run throughout the game and even score goals.
“I like Osimhen, but he must not waste energy, he must have more opportunities in peace without arriving tired from having chased the ball all the time,” he said.
