Parading the suspects at the headquarters of the agency’s command in Akure on Thursday, the state commander of the corps, Adetunji Adeleye, said the suspects were involved in crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, human trafficking, fraud, rape, among others .
He identified the suspects as Amadu Sede, Alhaji Ibrahim, Sulaiman Ibrahim, Mohammed Bello, Abdulwahab Saminu, Idowu Daniel, Babalola Samuel, Babajide Olalekan and Idowu Olusoji.
Others are Akintokun Emmanuel, Austin Sunday, Bala Shedrack, Joseph Babatunde, Adedapo Damilare, Emmanuel Juwon and Akinyemi Femi.
The suspects also include Damilare Omodare, Chika Alex, Durojaye Oni, Pitti Omolade, Ogunbayo Ayorinde, Femi Olagbede and, Osuntunde Olorunwa.
The commander said, “Some of the kidnappers who paraded themselves as herdsmen attacked one of their colleagues with machetes in a bid to kill him, but immediately we arrived at the scene, we rescued him, took him to a hospital and treated him for four months.
“After he was treated, he led us to their hideouts where we arrested other members of the gang who used cows to cover up.”
One of the suspects said his colleagues wanted to kill him because he refused to kill a kidnap victim.
He said, “When we kidnapped our victim, one of us said we should collect N6m from the victim’s family or we would kill him. We collected N3m ransom from his family but I refused because I have never killed a person in my life, that was why they wanted to kill me.”
