Ghana defender, Baba Rahman, has been ruled out of their Qatar 2022 World Cup play-offs against Nigeria later this month after picking up a knee injury.
The Black Stars are billed to host the Eagles in the first leg of the playoffs on March 25 at the Cape Coast Stadium which is currently under rehabilitation while the second leg comes up at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on March 29.
Rahman is currently on loan from Chelsea to championship side Reading and was one of the players interim coach Addo Otto would have been banking on in defence but according to Reading interim manager Paul Ince, the defender would be out of action for up to two to three weeks.
“Rahman is two or three weeks away,” the former Manchester United player said while giving his injury report ahead of Reading’s match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday (today).
The 27-year-old was a member of the Ghana squad to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and was involved in all three games as the Black Stars crashed out of the competition.
The defender played five of the six World Cup qualifying group games and his absence will be felt by the team. Rahman has scored once in 41 appearances for Ghana since making his debut for the country in 2014.
