The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested 19 suspected oil vandals and impounded seven trucks in Delta State.
The NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Emeka Peters, in a statement on Sunday in Asaba, said this was in line with the core mandate of the NSCDC to provide adequate and effective 24-hour security and protection of life and property.
He said, “The Delta State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, Corps Commandant Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun, paraded 19 suspects, two tankers and seven trucks that were arrested for various crimes across the State.
“Two of the suspects Odiaka Divine, 22, and Monday Bakwana, 28, were arrested by the Tactical Squad of the Anti-Vandal Unit in Patani LGA of Delta State on March 9, 2022, while conveying petroleum product suspected to be illegally refined DPK (Dual Purpose Kerosine) in polythene sacks inside a Mercedes 817 mini truck.
“Also paraded were 17 suspects, two tankers and seven trucks loaded with illegally refined petroleum products suspected to be AGO (Diesel) that was arrested in Ozoro, Isoko North LGA of Delta State by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad in less than 48 hours on arrival and operations in the state.
He said the suspects include Zuhairu Muhammed, 32; Masahudu Usman, 42; Zakari Kano, 35; Alex A. M, 25; Dalamin Bako, 30; Gambo Abdullahi, 20; Muhammed Mamuda, 25; Rabiu Saidu, 25; Shuaibu A Shuaibu, 20;
Others were Abudlahi M. Adamu, 24; Zakariya Haruna, 20; Abudlahi Sani, 22; Salisu Abubakar, 27; Isa Haruna, 23; Ibrahim Adamu; Ali Usman 25; and Salisu Zakaria, 20.
While assuring Deltans of the resilience and commitment of the NSCDC, the Commandant maintained that the fight against pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, general vandalism and all round criminality has been taken to an enviable and achievable pedestal in the state.
Akinsanya warned and advice all criminals and enemies of the state to either repent or relocate hence, they will be brought to justice soon, saying that upon investigation, the suspects will be charged to court to serve as deterrent to others
