A Kaduna State Governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Abdulmalik Mohammed Durungwa, has appealed for Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai’s support ahead of the 2023 governorship election.
Durungwa asked that the Governor should use the same logic of supporting the Presidency to be zoned to Southern Nigeria in 2023, for the Governorship to also be shifted to Southern Kaduna.
Dr Durungwa made this appeal in Kaduna on Monday at a parley with Southern Kaduna Journalists Forum, where he formally declared his aspiration for the number one seat of the State.
He said that El-Rufai recently supported a Southern Presidency candidate, and by extension, the Governor should apply the same in his home State by supporting a Southern Kaduna candidate.
Durunguwa, who is a pioneer Executive Secretary of Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, said he remained one of the best leading aspirants with the most formidable structure in the contest.
“I have consulted with any person in Kaduna and in Nigeria that have interest, that I am coming out to contest for the Governorship seat of the State come 2023, stressing I have no reason to doubt my conviction, that the Load my Southern Kaduna people want me to carry, I will do that with my all my strength and might,” he vowed.
While debunking the notion initially held by Governor El-Rufai that the governorship election could be won without votes from Southern Kaduna, he argued, using statistics from previous elections as proof, that the region was central for any candidate who wanted to win an election.
He maintained that all the previous governors in the State won their election with the support of the Southern Kaduna votes.
He reiterated that no Governorship candidate in the State could win an election without the support of the Southern Kaduna region.
“Without the votes of the Southern Kaduna region, APC would have lost election in the State,” he stated.
The Gubernatorial hopeful was of the view that this is the best time for Southern Kaduna to make a good outing and produce the next governor, having the northern part held power for almost 3 decades since 1999.
“The Southern Kaduna region has never had it as prospective as this time around to produce the next governor of the State. It is necessary for the region to come out en masse to support their own,” Durunguwa appealed.
