No fewer than four persons were killed on Tuesday when some gunmen attacked the Ebonyi office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the hoodlums invaded the headquarters of the NDLEA at Ntezi in the Íshíelu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State around 2am.
It was gathered that the attackers, who came through the back perimeter fence of the facility, were repelled by NDLEA officials, as soldiers and policemen raced to the scene to provide backup.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident.
Odah said security agencies killed two of the gunmen, while others escaped with injuries.
“Unfortunately, one of the officers and a patient undergoing rehabilitation at the agency’s rehabilitation centre were also killed,” she added.
She noted that security agencies were combing the bushes in search of the injured gunmen that escaped.
Odah revealed that two rifles and ammunition were recovered from the hoodlums.
Other items recovered included 140 rounds of K2 ammunition, 36 rounds of GPMG live ammunition, 30 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, a 4-Runner SUV, motorcycles, military/police uniforms and charms.
Recall that the agency lost two officers on February 20, 2022, when they were attacked along the Abakaliki-Enugu highway.
