A 50-year-old man, Umar Garba, has been arrested by the Gombe State Police command for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ishola Babaita, who confirmed this on Thursday, said that the victim, identified only as Mohammed, was hawking a local pap known as kunu, when Garba called her attention, before defiling her.
Babaita revealed that the suspect would be charged, having confessed to the crime involving the minor.
He warned parents and guardians to be careful and monitor their wards, from preying adults whom he said were all out to destroy the lives of children.
Gombe police commissioner said, “The suspect lured her into his room and closed the door.
“He forcefully had carnal knowledge of the girl child. He will be charged to court.
“Children are armless targets of rapists, no neighbour is saint enough to be entrusted with your children, so as not to fall prey to roving predators.”
Meanwhile, two suspects identified as Jubril Abdullahi and Hassan were arrested for allegedly attacking a 27-year old commercial motorcycle operator, Buba Abubakar, of Bomala quarters in the metropolis.
The duo were said to have snatched his motorcycle with registration number: NFD 937 WR.
