Osun state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has assured Persons living with Disabilities in the state that their interest would continue to be protected by his administration.
Oyetola spoke through his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, during a Civic Engagement meeting held with members of Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities, Osun Chapter on Thursday in Osogbo.
In demonstration of his commitment to their welfare, Oyetola said an Executive Bill tagged ‘Special People’s Bill’ meant to cater for their welfare was already receiving attention from the government.
After the bill has been passed and signed into law, Oyetola said persons with disabilities would be safeguarded against all forms of discrimination, adding that they would also have equal access to a conducive environment for social and economic development.
According to him, PWD were given priority in the state government free monthly food distribution, saying many of them also benefited from the Community for Social Development Projects, as well as, training at skills acquisition centers built for persons with disabilities in various parts of the state.
He said, “part of their social intervention programmes include survival loan; Covid-19 palliatives; special grant transfer programme under YESSO from World Bank in collaboration with the State Government.
“Also over 300 persons with disabilities are benefiting from the N10,000 monthly grant of the state government’s “Gbowo Ga” scheme for empowerment. You can be rest assured that I will continue to protect your welfare and interest in further unfolding opportunities.”
Oyetola also urged them to obtain their permanent voter cards and vote for him in the forth coming governorship election with an assurance that if reelected, he would not disappoint them.
Speaking earlier, the spokesperson of the group, Sunday Smith, said members of the association would support the governor based on his performance across all sectors.
