Nigerian Samuel Chukwueze and his Villarreal teammates will know their quarter-final foes in the UEFA Champions League on Friday (today), PUNCH Sports Extra reports
The Champions League quarter-final draw takes place on Friday at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
Chukwueze has made five appearances in the competition this season, scoring once for Unai Emery’s side.
The Yellow Submarines are one of the eight winners from the first knock-out round. The others are Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Chelsea.
The Spanish side are one of three La Liga teams to make it through to the quarter-finals, with Atletico and Madrid the other two.
This season’s draw is open, with no seedings and teams from the same country not kept apart, meaning Villarreal could face any one of the other seven quarter-finalists.
With no seedings to decide venues, which team gets home advantage in the first leg will also be determined by the luck of the draw in Nyon.
The first legs of the Champions League quarter-finals will take place on Tuesday, April 5 and Wednesday, April 6, with the second legs to take place on Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13.
The draw for the semi-finals and final will take place straight after Friday’s quarter-final draw, so the path each team will need to navigate through the remainder of the competition to lift the trophy will be clear, including which side of the draw will be the designated home team for the final in Paris.
The semi-finals will then begin on April 26 and 27, followed by the second legs on May 3 and 4. The final will be held on Saturday, May 28 at the Stade de France in Paris, after UEFA moved the venue from Saint Petersburg as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
