…as Addo finally releases 27-man list for Eagles tie
Four days before the much anticipated 2022 World Cup play-off between Nigeria and Ghana, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has finally named his 27-man squad for the encounters.
The first leg of the two encounters is billed for March 25 at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, with the reverse fixture at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja four days later.
Much has been said after the Ghana Football Association and their technical crew’s reluctance to announce the squad list.
While Nigeria head coach Austin Eguavoen announced his squad on March 4 for the mouth-watering clash against their West Africa archrivals, their counterparts delayed the release of their squad list for the encounter with GFA Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, saying it was “strategic.”
But Addo announced his 27-man squad on Tuesday, with in-form Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey and the impressive Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, who plays for FC St. Pauli in Germany, leading the Ghanaians.
Other top players invited for the Eagles clash are Daniel Amartey, who plays for Leicester City in England, and Mallorca midfielder Iddrisu Baba.
Despite claims that Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew had contracted COVID-19, he was in the list released by the head coach.
Goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott, who is expected to start in goal ahead of Orlando Pirates shot stopper Richard Ofori, was also invited, with defender Gideon Mensah making the list as well.
Captain Andre Ayew misses out owing to the red card he got at the Africa Cup of Nations held in Cameroon in January.
Both teams have a lot to play for following a poor outing at the AFCON.
