Some residents of Ikorodu, Lagos State, have accused a man of plotting to kidnap children in the community.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspect, who got to the area in the afternoon, started walking around in a suspicious manner.
He was still loitering in the community at night when residents, who had been observing his movements, accosted him.
During interrogation, the unidentified suspect reportedly gave no satisfactory explanation for his presence in the area.
Bent on making him say the reason he visited the place, the suspect was reportedly searched and substances suspected to be charms were found on him.
He was thereafter ordered to kneel, as people claimed he planned to use the charms to kidnap children.
In a video clip of the incident seen by our correspondent, the suspect was asked who he was working for and his state of origin.
“I work for nobody; I am from Enugu State,” he stated.
He was also seen pleading for mercy while denying the allegations.
Another clip showed residents lamenting, as they displayed the suspected fetish objects.
A resident was heard in the video clip reposted by an Instagram account, Instablog9ja, advising parents to stop sending their children on errands at night.
In another development, a Point-of-Sale operator, identified as Ashley Adedayo, has allegedly absconded with her boss’ N140,000 at Fagba, in the Ifako Ijaiye area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Adedayo resumed work at her boss’ shop on Tuesday and on the same day made a business transaction with a customer, who gave her N100,000 cash.
However, things took another dimension when she allegedly disappeared with the money and the PoS terminal.
Using his Twitter handle, @Letter_to_Jack, a friend of Adedayo’s boss said N40,000 was in an account attached to the machine the suspect stole.
He disclosed that the business owner had not been able to track the suspect, adding that investigation revealed that the name and address in the curriculum vitae she used in applying for the job were fake.
He wrote, “This lady, Ashley Dupe Adedayo, started work yesterday as a PoS attendant and she eloped with N140,000 and the PoS machine after a few hours. She was given N100,000 cash, while N40,000 was in the OPAY to work with. The details on her CV are fake, even the address. The PoS station was at Fagba, Iju Station Bus-stop, Ifako Ijaiye LG.”
A picture of the suspect was also attached to the post.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundenyin, said the alleged attempted kidnap was not reported to the police.
“So, to the best of our knowledge, there is no record of it. Lagosians should learn to hand over such suspects to the police so we can act accordingly,” he added.
Hundenyin promised to revert on the fleeing PoS attendant. He had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
