The Peoples Democratic Party aspirant for Bende Federal Constituency, Nnamdi Ibekwe, on Monday said the incessant farmers/herders clashes in Bende North Local Government Area of Abia State would be tackled and peace restored if elected.
Ibekwe stated this in Igbere while informing selected leaders of the area his desire to contest.
He said the incessant squabbles between cattle herders and farmers in the area would be tackled in collaboration with the state government through legislation to ensure farming activities in the area thrives.
He disclosed that his interest in agriculture is to raise farming in the constituency from subsistence level to mechanised status, especially rice farming that is predominant in the area, hence the need to erase fears in the area by bringing to a roundtable the herders, the farmers, government and security agencies in the state to iron out any differences.
He assured all stakeholders that his interest in education was to ensure changes in “education trajectory as the vehicle that drives individual empowerment and societal development.”
The Bende LGA PDP Chairman, Arisa Okparaigbo, state Commissioners for Basic Education and Sports, Ukwu Emma and Karibe Ojigwe; former commissioners, Chuzzy Iboko and Joseph Ogwo, the Deputy Bende LGA Chairman, Promise Okoro and the immediate-past council deputy chairman, Okereke Elendu, among others, assured that based on rotation, they would give Ibekwe’s aspiration their full support.
