Windstorm has destroyed properties worth millions of naira in Niger State.
The windstorm, which was said to have lasted for over two hours, occurred during the first rainfall witnessed by the residents of Kuta, Shiroro local government area of the State.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of Coalition of Shiroro Associations, Sailas Sabi, it was stated that the windstorm rendered many people homeless and others jobless.
Sabo said, “In the history of the town, there has never been such a disastrous windstorm which lasted for almost two hours, leaving many casualties and rendering many others homeless and jobless.”
He stated that 11 people were injured and many properties were destroyed by the rain that fell on Friday night.
“The community has, so far, recorded that 198 houses are affected, 104 shops, 11 persons injured, 38 houses collapsed, two mosques, and four schools are affected,” he said.
He added that government properties were also affected by the windstorm.
“The Shiroro Local Government Education Authority, the Veterinary Hospital, and General Hospital are the public properties that are affected,” he stated.
