Officials of National Emergency Management Agency led by the North-East Zonal coordinator, Muhammad Aji, have commenced the routine distribution of food items to Internally Displaced Persons in camps and host communities in Borno State.
The exercise, which was sequel to the approval by the Director General of the agency, Alhaji Ahmed Habib, was kicked started at the Madinatu IDP camp in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Habib, according to a statement by the spokesman for the agency in the North-East, AbdulKadir Ibrahim, instructed the zonal coordinator to ensure that food was made available to all the displaced persons both at the camps and accommodated within the host communities.
He said the zonal coordinator, based on instruction from his boss, immediately swung into action and has distributed food items at the Madinatu IDP camp.
He said the gesture would be extended to other IDP camps in the state as well as to the IDPs staying in communities in Borno State.
The statement read that: “Sequel to the approval by the Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Ahmed Mustapha Habib, for food distribution for Internally Displaced Persons in Borno State, officials of NEMA North-East led by Muhammad Usman Aji have continued with the routine distribution of food items for Internally Displaced Persons in camps and host communities in Maiduguri.”
Ibrahim noted that NEMA has been supporting the efforts of the Borno State Government in the feeding of IDPs in the state since 2016 under the Federal Government Emergency Food Intervention in the North-East.
