An 85-year-old man, Olawale Aminu, has been arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly attacking and attempting to kill one Yusuff Jimoh in the Papanla area of the Osun State.
Aminu and three others, Moruf Aminu, 40; Aminu Shuaib, 29; and Jelili Suleiman, 30; appeared before the court on Friday after they were arrested for attempted murder and inflicting bodily harm on Jimoh with a matchete.
The prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun, said the defendants and others yet-to-be arrested, on March 22, in Okinni, “did, with intent to disfigure, unlawfully attempt to cut off the head of the victim.’’
“They also unlawfully inflicted machete cuts in the chest and hands of one Jelili Yusuf ‘m’ which caused grievous harm to his hand.”
He said the offences committed contravened Sections 516, 320, 332 and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap Volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
The defendants pleaded not guilty and their counsel, Muiz Salihu, applied for their bail.
But Olusegun opposed the application, saying the accused might jump bail.
In his ruling, the magistrate, Dr Segun Ayilara, admitted the octogenarian to bail on health grounds.
He, however, remanded others in Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter until April 12, 2022. Copyright PUNCH.
