Mohammed Barde, on Wednesday, assumed office as the new Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command.
He took over from Rabiu Hussaini, who had in March proceeded on retirement.
The new CP, who hails from Niger State as his predecessor, promised to work to stamp out criminals in the state.
The CP took over at a time when criminal activities had resurfaced in the state.
Gunmen had in the past six weeks burnt six police Divisional Police Headquarters, houses of commissioners and the country home of the President General of the Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof George Obiozor, in the state.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, Micheal Abattam, said, “The Imo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the new Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, has officially resumed duty in the command.
“The Commissioner of Police, who hails from Niger State, is a seasoned police officer, was enlisted into the Force in March, 1990, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the prestigious Usman Danfodio University, and a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution.
“He is a passionate, versatile and experienced Police Officer, who has served the Force meritoriously in various capacities and in different Commands and Formations.
“He served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration in the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, and Police College, Jos, Plateau State, respectively. Also he was the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Borno State Command.
“CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde was the Commissioner of Police, Force Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department Annex, Enugu, and until his recent posting to Imo State Police Command, he was the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command. His dint of hard work and professionalism in the job has earned him many accolades. He is happily married and blessed with children.”
