Five persons, including two reverend sisters, a couple and their driver, have been burnt to death in a road crash at Nawfia, along the Awka-Enugu Expressway, Anambra State.
The accident happened on Wednesday.
The crash was between a Toyota Highlander with number plate BMR570BE, and a Toyota Hiace with no number plate.
It was gathered that the bus driver, who was at top speed, lost control and rammed into the Highlander from behind, as both vehicles caught fire.
Five persons, comprising two male adults and three female adults, were involved in the crash.
Men of the state fire service later put out the fire.
A rescue team of the Federal Road Safety Corps was on ground to manage traffic and ensure the obstruction caused by the crash was removed.
The Anambra State Sector Commander, FRSC, Adeoye Irelewuyi, attributed the crash to speeding.
Irelewuyi commiserated with the families of the victims and advised motorists to keep to the recommended speed limit.
He said, “A Toyota Highlander and a Toyota Hiace bus were involved in a fatal road traffic crash on Wednesday, around 06.30am.
“According to an eyewitness, the bus driver was at top speed when he lost control and rammed into the Highlander from behind, crashed and both vehicles caught fire.
“Five people, comprising two male adults and three female adults, were involved in the crash and were burnt beyond recognition.
“Speed thrills, but kills, check your speed and not your watch. Let us keep our road safe from crashes.”
