Ahead of the 2023 general election, the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged Nigerians to be mindful of the leaders they would elect into public offices.
Okowa gave the advice on Wednesday at the 2022 edition of Maris Annual Public Service Lecture in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
Okowa, represented by the Commissioner for Special Duty, Government House, Mr. Herry Siakpare, said that the theme of the lecture, ‘Selfless Service: A Phenomenal Virtue’, was quite timely as the country moved towards another season of election.
He said, “This theme of the lecture is quite timely and appreciated as it will serve to draw attention to the need for selfies leaders as we move towards another season of election.
“Selfless service is a service performed without any expectation of reward or award for the one performing it. True selfless service encompasses helping more than our physical family.
“Let me also call on our people to be mindful of those they elect into public offices.”
Speaking on the topic, the guest speaker, the immediate past Chief of Staff Mr. Festus Agas, said that when you went out of position, you lost friendship.
He urged leaders to put people first above their needs, calling on Deltan people to choose selfless leaders to come 2023.
In his remark, the organiser of Maris Annual lecture, Mr. Fidelis Egugbo, thanked Governor Okowa and panel discussants for proffering solutions to issues facing Nigeria.
He assured that the public lecture would be sustained, noting that the 2023 lecture had been slated for April 5, 2023.
