Actor, Jude Chukwuka, has said it is not Nollywood’s duty to curb the ills in the society.
He told Sunday Scoop, “It is not Nollywood’s duty to curb the ills in the society. When the whole system is bastardized, there is nothing that Nollywood can do. There are institutions that the country put in place to curb the ills. From re-orientating the people to arresting them, and taking them to court. If the institutions fail, there is nothing Nollywood can do to make it better. Before children started watching Nollywood, they have parents and teachers. Parents must invest in their children so that they have values that cannot be crossed.”
He also spoke on the issue of domestic violence when he was much younger and now. He said, “It is a sad thing that a man would make a woman a punching bag. It has always been, just that social media only made it very pronounced now because everyone now sees and hears about it. It is sad that Osinachi Nwachukwu died because of marriage.
“I have an interest in music. I am not permitted to talk about it now because it is part of the total package of reinventing my brand. I am working at it. I know I will impress my fans.
The actor explained how he feels welcoming a child at his age. He said, “I feel great welcoming a child at my age. He is a special gift and a wonderful person. My other son looks like me but he is fair but this new born looks like me completely. He is always happy and cries at times. He is blessed and has wonderful names to depict that.”
On the assumption that an actor has to perform on stage to check how good his art is, Chukwuka said, “I have a stage background but that assumption is not totally true. I have seen fantastic actors that do not have stage backgrounds. However, the stage experience gives you an edge.
“The stage sharpens your improvisation skills because somebody must create something that is consistent with the whole message. We also have this challenge of people transiting from age to film. Their training will be on acting for television. I am also working on repositioning and reinventing myself and shaking off some negative vibes.
