The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that hoodlums attacked a send-off ceremony in the Gudum Sayawa area of the state and killed two persons.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday.
He said the ceremony was organised by a retired police officer on April 22, for his daughter who was planning to get married but hoodlums stormed the venue with machetes, knives and other weapons and attacked guests.
Wakil said, “During the week under review, the command fought tirelessly in raising policing standards which led to significant milestones in the combat against crime and criminality.
“Worthy of note is the successful operation that led to the arrest of suspected hoodlums terrorising Gudun Hausawa, Gudun Siyawa and Gudun Fulani areas in the Bauchi metropolis.
“On April 22, 2022, in a related development to the communal clash in Gudun Hausawa, a retired police officer, Ezra Yari, organised a wedding send-forth for his daughter, Halima Yari, at the Gudun Hausawa area of Bauchi metropolis. In the process, some thugs hijacked the occasion, entered his house using weapons like machetes, knives and in the process injured some youths.
“On receiving the information, a team of detectives swiftly moved to the scene and evacuated the injured persons to Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where two persons: Gift Felix (17) and Shalon Memdir (18), both from Gudun Hausawa, were certified dead.”
He stated that seven male suspects, who were residents of Gudun Fulani, were arrested in connection with the case.
