The Lagos State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives says all hands must be on deck to rid Nigeria of malaria.
The association also called on the governments at all levels to increase the budgetary commitment to health to ensure the most vulnerable people have access to health services.
The association made this known at a programme held in Badagry in commemoration of World Malaria Day, with the theme ‘Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives. Speaking during the free medical community outreach that preceded the association’s maiden State Executive Council Meeting, the Chairman of the NANNM Lagos, Olurotimi Awojide urged everyone to take their health status seriously and go for regular medical check-ups.
He said the goal was to educate people and various levels of leadership about their critical roles in ending malaria in their communities while delivering free healthcare.
Awojide noted that for any intervention or innovation to be successful, all the main stakeholders must take ownership of the battle against malaria.
“To combat anti-malaria medication resistance, health departments must also provide special health education on anti-malaria drug usage.”
