The Senator representing Lagos West at the National Assembly, Solomon Adeola, popularly called Yayi has warned against spreading rumors on the integrity of the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun.
Adeola who declared support for Governor Abiodun’s second term, stated that those writing petition against the governor will fail.
A member of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Ayodele Oludiran, had petitioned the leadership of the party, seeking disqualification of Abiodun from participating in the forthcoming governorship primary.
The petition alleged that there are discrepancies in his Independent National Electoral Commission forms CF001 submitted in 2015 and 2019.
The petition also alleged that the governor was convicted for an offence in 1986 with the name Shawn Michael Davis in the United States.
But the governor, in a letter to the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, through his lawyers, Afe Babalola & Co, urged the party to disregard the petition, describing it as an attempt to mislead the party.
Speaking with newsmen in his hometown in Ilaro, the Senate Committee Chairman on Finance described the petition against the governor as a failed attempt.
He said “No amount of petitions will stop the governor’s second term ambition. He will return. Those writing petitions are wasting their time.
“They will fail and they have failed. Let them write it inside water or anywhere, they will fail and they have failed”.
Adeola had announced switching of his political base from Lagos to Ogun State, where he would be contesting for Ogun West Senatorial seat in 2023.
The Senator explained that his decision to contest for Ogun West Senatorial seat has not contravened either the Nigerian constitution or that of his party.
He said “there are other schools of thoughts that questioned the legal position of my ambition. As far as I am concerned, have I run foul of the constitution? the answer is no, I have not run foul of the party’s constitution.
“If I had run the same election in Lagos while still serving, I will still have been referred to as Senator-elect whose tenure will commence after the expiration of this current National Assembly, so, if I eventually emerge as the Senator-elect of Ogun West, it does not mean I’m serving two Senatorial Districts, I’m only serving Lagos and once my tenure ends in June 9, I will be referred to as a Senator of Ogun West if sworn-in as the Senator.”
He explained his ambition to return to Ogun state started more than 15 years ago, which he premised on the need to contribute to the growth and development of his home state.
