The Katsina State Police Command has rescued 12 victims of human trafficking in the Daura Local Government Area of the state.
Details surrounding their rescue were still sketchy as of Wednesday evening.
The spokesman for the police command, Gambo Isah, confirmed that police rescued the victims on Tuesday following “a very credible intelligence”.
Isah said the victims were about being ferried to the Niger Republic on their way to Libya when the police team stormed the house where they were accommodated in the village.
Details of the victims as provided by Isah are: Madinat Adekeje 39, (female) of Kwara state; Aminat Kazeem,25(female) (Oyo state); Orobore Francis,21, (Male, Edo state ); Mike Emuagbon 22(‘M’, Edo state); Oladoke Uhunoma,33 ( female,,Edo state); Elizabeth Idemudia,16(‘Female, Edo state); Fatima Ibrahim,25(female , Osun state); Elizabeth Egbayelo, 32(female,Ondo state); Olawale Oyindamola,19(female, Ondo state)
Victoria Chidi, 14,( female Ondo state);
Folashayo Oluwabunmi, 30, (female, Ogun state) and Suliyat Omotayo, 25( female Ogun state).”
Isah said efforts are on to hand over the victims to the National Agency for the Prohibition of trafficking of persons.
Isah also said, “The Command is making efforts to arrest the owner of the house one Yahaya Dahiru, ‘M’, of Kalgo village, Daura and their driver, one Mas’udu Dusha, ‘M’, of Yankara village, Mai’addua.”
