Tension has gripped residents of Uwheru community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State as a gas-laden tanker belonging to Freshvile company crashed into the paved ways, demarcating the double lanes of the East-West road in the area.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the lone auto crash occurred on Friday night when the gas tanker fell across the East-West road, thereby, restricting vehicular movement along the ever-busy highway.
Witnesses attributed the accident to either speeding or fatigue on the part of the driver who was suspected to possibly be on a nap.
They could not however ascertain if the driver survived the accident, or whether there was any causality.
However, the agitated members of the agrarian community had been calling on the security operatives and management of the company to come and evacuate the tanker from the highway to avoid further accidents.
It was gathered that the incident would have resulted in a great disaster if the gas tanker had burst into flame.
The Police Public Relations officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comments on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
